I Hear Laughter In The Rain

There is always a first time for everything. Fun Run in the middle of heavy rain is something new to me, but hey, I felt that it was way better than the usual! So true, maniwala kayo! Sana lagi na lang umuulan kapag may fun run, :-D oh sige na nga, joke lang.

I did not get a chance to be bored from my first step up to the last because, for 5k at least, most joiners were kids and high school students – trust me, it was way too unpredictable. I saw a kid left the sole of his rubber shoes and he just then went barefoot! I think that was smart and one less smelly feet from all of the wet runners. And mind you, teens are just sooo energetic. Hindi sila mahabol ni Ate Meeyeow! Hahaha!

And you just might understand where the fun was coming if you read further from the conversations I overheard along the race:

A girl was left behind by his friends and met at the other side of the track just after the U-Turn near Coastal Mall:

Girl: “Pwede ba? … magshortcut?”
Boys: “Cge, pwede yan!”

… Until they were noticed and stopped by the marshal. Tsk tsk. Buking!

A guy kid blaming the girl kid:

Guy Kid 1: “Kanina pa sana ako natapos kung hindi kita inantay kanina!” (taray!)

At the water station:

Kid 1: “Wow, tubig ulan!” (indeed! Hindi malayong 50% ng laman ng mga plastic cups ay tubig ulan! hehehe)

A boy struggling to get to the finish line:

Boy: “Para kay Obet!!!!” (That’s the spirit!! Remember Obet, the recipient of new rubber shoes in the Milo commercial? Awwwww!)

A teen after getting his race certificate:

Teen 1: “Yahooo! Pang dagdag to sa credentials to pag nag apply koooo!”
Teen 2 (to Teen 1): “Papasa na tayong magnanakaw!” (mabilis tumakbo, nga naman…)

Getting to the finish line wasn’t easy for us (me, my sister and Jelly) and the start line is even harder! We had to go back to the nearest U-Turn because Macapagal road turned one-way. We were 30 minutes late from the gun start and it was still raining!

After the race, we stayed for a while to take pictures, kid around and wave to the helicopter covering the event. Yeah baby! Sana nakita ang big smile ko sa TV! Hahaha! No loot bag this time (baduy!). But we saw Sheh, William and Mae; quite surprising to see them in the crowd of around 34,000.

We don’t know our official time yet. My senses are telling me around 50 minutes for 5 kilometers. I’ll update you soon! ;-) For now, I will deal with my headache, body pain and a blister on my foot but definitely no injury! Next race is RunRio Leg 2! If my training at work will not fall on the same day, I’ll be joining this race and enjoying Boracay a week after because I cannot be in same place at once… I’m hoping for the best!!!! Hooray! :-D

Thank you, Lord!

Races Ahead

I’m in!!!

I’m very excited with my 5th and 6th fun run as of this year - even happier to run with family and friends I have encouraged.

35th Milo Marathon MANILA Elimination Race (July 2011)
Unfortunately, the race registration is already closed since last week. Running with family and Sheh! Race details here.

RunRio Trilogy 2011 Leg 2: RUN UNITED 2 (August 2011)
I’m really crossing my fingers for this one. Remember earlier this year, a foot injury barred me from joining Leg 1? :’-( This time, I’ll be running with Joseph and Kristle. Race details here.

Greentennial Fun Run 2011

The Practice

My sister was very excited about her first run. I could remember mine so I really understood her! Hahaha! She even had her singlet stitched the night before the fun run because I got her a medium sized-singlet and I did not notice she was getting slimmer already :-)

For our last practice, we went to Island Cove, our usual running field, the day before for some jogs and breakfast! Tatay was invited, too. Still wearing maong pants this time, he really just not used to wearing shorts or jogging pants! Hahaha! At 6AM, we were already on our feet, together with the rest of CaviteƱos at the Cove, jogging too and greeting each other!

Now here’s the best part… again Tatay with his rusty stories :-D

Three rounds this time and we headed straight to DCMV for some breakfast! We had our 30-year old recipe of Tapa and Sinangag with bulalo soup. Yum! Yum!

Some Side Excitement

Mangos are reeeeeaaady! After the practice, it was time for another action – mango picking!!!!!! Which gave me these allergies :-( Huhuhu.

The mangos were reallycalling me, “Hinog na kami!” Hehehe. Jelly and I wasted no time :-D one bag-full of mangos! Yahoooooo!

The Fun Run Day

Both of them woke up very early and in no time, we were at Macapagal Avenue. Amazingly, we were able to find a decent spot to park White! Weeee ^_^v We headed straight to the start line, had some few shots with the big crowd. Greentennial team did a great job in organizing this event!

… And there was gun start!

…And my sister’s very first fun run. :-) Aaaaw

Jelly finished just a few minutes after me. Then there was Ate Doll after. Unfortunately I did not beat my last time. I finished 1 minute behind but it was okay, the most important thing was I have shared a good hobby to my sister which she really appreciated.

At the finish line, it was so good to see familiarfaces. There was my ex-officemates - Ate Jing & Sheh and a college classmate – Ann!

The medal was a plus. All finishers got one! Weeeeee!

I will continue to spread the word – running is fun! I owe this experience to an officemate who was the very first one to encourage me and I will encourage others to have time for some real healthy fun. ;-)

Next is the MILO Marathon 2011 on July 31, 2011!!! See yah!

Race Kits Are Here!

It only took me 30 minutes to pick up the race kits for Gems, Sheh, Mae and mine. Sobrang speedy ng lakad ko - masakit lang sa paa pero worth it ang pagmamadali ko, nakasabay pa ako sa dinner with the pips. I went to Planet Sports at GB3 the other night where the registration was so jam-packed! I just went a minute earlier from a bunch of regristrants! Whew – swerte! In just few minutes of record verifications, I was able to get our race kits!

My First 5K

Reaching the finish line was, for me, like hugging your parents on your graduation day after you get your medal. It was an extraordinary feeling and one of the proudest moments of my life. Photographers were line up just beneath the finish banner, waiting eagerly for the runners to get an extraordinary shot all the way through their high-end lenses, and I told my self, “kaunti na lang!”

This was actually about 50 meters away from the finish line. At this point, my back was still beating aching but I had to keep going! Wesley, thanks for tagging!

At the mid of the last kilometer, I had to be left behind by my running buddy, Gems, as my right back was already aching, a sign that I had to slow down. “Gems, una ka na, hahabulin na lang kita!” I reached the end of the race a minute after her. At the finish line, we were all-smiles! The 3-month training did pay-off! We waited and one by one, each of our colleagues has completed their own races (5k/15k).

Here are the happy runners

Me, Gems and Pem with the famous (pala) Coach Rio. Everybody was eager to take pictures with him, and so we did kahit hindi pa namin sya masyadong kakilala.

Amazingly, I met my old college classmate, Wesley, at the race whom I never saw in ten years! It was very nice to see him again. Another amazing thing, I saw Che, my ex-officemate posted pictures on Facebook at the same spot we had our pictures taken! We did not see each other at race but she confirmed it on FB ;-D I look forward to see them on my future races.

Three months of training and preparation was fun as I was with my friends. It wasn’t actually easy to get yourself jogging in the middle of the night at Ayala Triangle but with them, with similar goal to get fit, have fun and have a balanced life, we did it successfully.

I was very very happy that all went well as planned (from the race ... to our first weekend barkada mall date after the race), of course aside from finishing the race at 42 minutes!

The race was actually just the beginning of that crazy fun fun fun Sunday. We went to Dave’s place to pick up his daughter, Nicca, for our breakfast. Then we headed all the way to Libis Eastwood to have some carbo-loading-all-you-can-eat-breafast at Somethin’ Fishy. We had to offset the sweat of course! After that, we went straight to Warren’s condo and had some good sleep. At 4PM, though it was raining all day and roads were flooded, nothing stopped us going to MOA for our late lunch at Don Henrico’s Restaurant. Buffalo wings are great! Then for the final stop, we watched the overpriced P200 Inception movie! Awesome movie! That was actually our first metro getaway on weekend. We usually go out of town but nothing like that one.

That race is the start of another adventure in my life. I used to see fun run only on television! I am so proud I got to be part of it. I have to credit Brando for all the encouragements. My lifetime fun run goal is 1000k… and to ENCOURAGE OTHER FRIENDS TO JOIN!!!

Meter check: 5k out of 1000k ;-D

Good luck, Buds!
