Raising A Father

He could be the person who upsets me the most, yet he is the most comforting one. He is not trying, but he is funny to me most of the time. Just yesterday, I received a text message from him saying:

Wag u sarhan ang pinto ha?

He is 71. This usually means he is going to be out for a while and will come home by the time I am already asleep.

When the phone rings:

“Sabihin mo wala ako…”

Most of the time, I become the disciplinarian between the two of us. He still smokes and drinks beer whenever I am not around. He sleeps late for chess – very late… Lab u,Tay!

Chicken Tinola Sure Hits The Spot On This Cold, Rainy Day

Thank God, flood has finally subsided today. I checked the roads and pretty sure that it could be passable this day. Glad I was allowed by my bosses to work from home yesterday because aside from the non-stop rain the other night, it was high tide!

Well today, instead of frowning about this gloomy weather, I welcome this stormy day with the goodness of warm soup just the way I like it – CHICKEN TINOLAaaaa!

Unfortunately, we have one BIG problem… I forgot to cook the rice! Grrrrr!!!!!!!! T_T Good thing Tatay is calm unlike me, and said “Ako na magsasaing”. Lab u, Tay! It is 12 noon… and as of this writing, we are still waiting for the rice to be cooked. Hehehe! Kainis :-D

Happy lunch everyone!

Boracay Preparation

Almost a month left before I hit the beach again in the middle of rainy season. Hahaha! Tickets are purchased; hotels booked and confirmed; itinerary prepared! I just love preparing things and getting ready for something. Tadaa!

Ooops! I still have to file vacation leave! Matuloy sana at wag lang babagyo please. T_T I am already crossing everything I can cross – fingers, legs, arms and even my eyes! Hihihihi.

“Bora was a sacred place for me but things have changed –
Palawan is my new Bora!” ^_^v

On A Do-Nothing Day

My big appetite is back! Thank God.  I feasted two cups of rice from my yesterday’s lunch. It was actually a Friday lunch date with my girl friends – Zeny, Che, Lieo and Shie at Max’s Jupiter. That was a big lunch and a humongous catch up date with them.

Nevertheless, weekend is also the best time for me to take advantage of my hungry stomach. However, while thinking that I went home very late last night, Tatay didn’t wake me up even it was almost noon! Thanks to my cellphone, I didn’t burn my eyes. He took his lunch alone with the leftover Sinigang na Bangus I cooked last Friday.

I didn’t have plans for the day so it was just the TV, the foodie and me. ^_^v

I call this “Instant Meryenda” kasi I can cook this in 30 minutes!!! Adik ba? But it never gets old to me: nothing tastes as good as home-cooked food – just like my Arrozcaldo! Belaaaat! Please get used to this. I would never get tired of speaking about my love for lugaw & tokwa. Ayayaaaay! Saraaaap! I could even name my kid "Tokwa"!!!! Hahahaha! On a second thought... wag na lang pala. LOL

Eto, this was last week.

Mais, anyone? Libre from Kuya Joel

Spanish bread and Coffee over Kenny G concert at Studio 23.

How was your own do-nothing day? :-)

Bored Mode

When I’m bored, I tend to do a lot of things... so I love being bored! gulo ko :-D

I asked Jaimie to collaborate with me with this one. So Jamie, this is our work!!!!

The girl with the yellow off shoulder top is inspired by Silver (90210). The girl in white kamisa and leggings is my outlook this weekend. The one with blue tank top and girly skirt is inspired by Patty Laurel and the last one, which is my favorite LBD (little black dress), is inspired by Nikita! ^_^v

I really really suck on sketching feet and hands, so instead na magmukhang luya, I omitted them na lang. See, hindi masyadong halata? Hahaha!!!

What kept you busy lately?

Here Is The Story of My Happiness Today

“Manong, Binatoooooooog!!!”

Instant breakfast, anyone? I’m working from home this week so that is why I don’t have time to prepare breakfast. Tatay is still asleep, he used to cook fried rice from last night’s kaning lamig, but today he is not feeling well, slowing him down since yesterday. Awww.. get well, daddy!

It's kinda hard to admit, as I age, my throat easily irritates by sugary/syrupy treats and sometimes this really discourages me to spoil my sweet tooth… but not today! Yipeeeee! Manong is just on time today, not too early nor too late.

The famous trademark: Binatog buckets!

“Teng, teng, teng!” what else could it be? I will never mix its sound with puto (Puput! Puput!) nor taho (Tahoooooo!) nor Selecta (alam nyo na yon, hehehe). It is the famous Binatog loaded on the famous bicycle with the tiny gong! ^_^

If you are adventurous enough, try it with brown sugar. Iba eh, parang aromatic! Hehehe. Yum Yum Yum!

What is your breakfast today? ;-)

Dear Five-Year-Old Me

Dear Five-Year Old Meeyeow,

Helloooo! Your bangs scared me, A LOT!!!! Pambihira… Dude, scissors are invented centuries ago before you… kinagat lang ba yan ng Nanay? O baka si Dith ang naggupit nyan gamit yung pinking shears nya?!  LOL. And you have curly hair ah!
I don’t know about the shirt… Parang P.E.uniform to ni Kuya Jhoy sa St. Peregrine :-P Correct?! Pero one thing I am sure, pango na talaga ang ilong natin dati pa. Hahahaha!
I don’t remember much about his picture, even the house. I have tiny little bits of images in my mind but I could not complete. You know what? I have sooooo much to tell you! Pero yung iba baka hindi mo maintindihan. I remember you were a stubborn child when you were growing but kind-hearted naman. Hehehe!
I miss you so much, especially those days when you think life was just all about play. Mind you as you grow, there were road bumps ahead… but you survived! ^_^v God is very kind to you and always to me until now.

Much Love,
Thirty-Year Old Meeyeow

What Made My Day Today

We all love weekends. Having that “extra” time off work is having a lot of time to sleep and to curl up on my comfy bed. Tinatanong pa ba ‘yon?? Hehehe. ^_^v By the way, I woke up eleven o’clock this morning. You see, I still have half of my day to spend.

I did not bother cooking for lunch so why I just asked Grace to buy some cooked meal at Aling Celia’s and besides, the fridge is empty! ^_^ After noon, I happen to spot Malagkit rice in the cupboard while looking for instant noodles. What else it could be aside from having Champurado – a very timely miryenda for us?

For dinner, Tatay and I felt like eating Tuyo and Fried Rice, perfect for this rainy day! I bet inggit na inggit ang kapitbahay namin sa amoy ng tuyo lalo na kung ganitong umuulan. Heheheh. Dicovery Channel topped it all up and made me think that my NEW greatest dream is to watch a Celine Dion concert, LIVE!!!

Thank you, Lord, for this generous day!
Happy weekend yo’s!

What Is Your Favorite Food That Brings You Back to Childhood

I run a survey earlier, asking my friends to tell me their favorite food that remind them of their childhood. I absolutely enjoyed it and that is why I want to share the laughs. Most answers are just hilarious. You could identify/relate the era of their childhood. Hahaha!

Mine would always be Lugaw And Tokwa. It would always remind me how my mother raised us by running a small carinderia that served afternoon miryenda. Whenever I prepare for my own version, the best part would be the preparation. Perhaps the view of chopped ginger, minced garlic, diced onions, and deboned chicken takes me back to our old dining table where my mother would prepare hers.

Remembering those make us stop for a while, smile, and go back to our happy memories. They are something that fills not only our stomach but our hearts too.

Humongous THANKS to those who participated. I did not expect to receive such great numbers of respondents. Thank you! The survey result goes like this...

Some Things You Don’t Know About Me

I can flip my eyelids; make ‘W’ with my tongue and roll the tip of it into a circle. I can even flip my tongue upside down – both to the left and to the right. I can raise my eyebrow one at a time. I learned that these are inherited traits… I wonder if it is from Rose or Demz. Hmmmm…

When I was in higschool, my school launched a field demonstration contest during Foundation Day. Sophomores were assigned to perform some kind of an ethnic dance, Singkil yata yon. Three students among the whole Sophomore batch were not chosen during the audition... and I was one of them! Hahahaha! Butata!

In elementary, the school would always send me every year to a Math Quiz Bee and consistently getting a medal for each contest. NAKS! LOL!

When I find a song I like, I will listen to it over and over again until I get sick of it.

I usually belt at least three songs when I take a bath – most of them are love songs. I pick songs that I know the lyrics from start to end. ^_^

When I was in Grade 1, I peed on bed almost every night. During those times, I usually had dreams that I was peeing in the toilet. Duh! :-/ It only stopped when I was in Grade 2.

I cannot remember moments in my childhood until I was at age 5.

Vinegar Hair Rinse

Have you ever heard of using vinegar on your hair? I tried it yesterday! I brought Fried Lumpia (with suka-toyo dip) for my packed dinner so I have the most perfect excuse if my hair would smell vinegary. Hahahaha!

My hair seemed to dry out after using shampoo + condition-in-one hair products and hair colors. :-/ I was forced to cut my hair short and I didn’t like it by the way.  I used to put mayo on my hair to make it shine but it was a long process, nakakatamad talaga gawin. Then I discover vinegar rinse as alternative. It says vinegar makes the strands less dry and loses the tangling.  You could do it once or twice a week to wash out shampoo/conditioner build ups.

… 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a cup of water … Wash your hair as usual then this would be the last rinse and let it dry. If you are scared of the smell, do it on a weekend or anytime that you are just staying at home.

So how was it??

It does work!!! No tangling, and less frizzyness. About the smell, forget it – there was no smell at all when my hair dried out.

Going back to my old ways, washing my hair with regular shampoo every other day and baby shampoo in between – strictly no conditioner.

Happy combing! ;-)

Centuries Ago

(You know I am a trying hard poet too! LOL)

The First Times

I almost forgot everything about OUR first times

Until I was given time to bring everything again in my mind

Things that we shared though thick and thin

All the laughs and all the grins.

I am not your first love, neither you for me

Is it matters anyway if now is here

What makes it special, I know for sure

The antonym of FIRST, it’s for you and me.

You had a journey for these past four years

According to you “…with you by my side

Each of your step, is succeeded by my step

No one can replace all those first times…

At a snap of a finger, another first time happened

A first time, I CANNOT HANDLE.

My heart is broken into billion times

Yes, another first time

I hope I can read your heart and mind

So I will know that you are just teaching mine

What makes me afraid? Now it is only YOU.

Everything that you utter, ME is omitted and WE too…

I feel so weak that everything’s uncertain for me

I am a loser; I do not want to be

You even said “…but did i take the right path

that i can never find you again. . .

Your choice seem to throw me

A choice that thorns me

I have cried and still cries because I am lost and hurt

Not because you’re falling for someone but for other grounds

I hope I have used the wrong words “you’re falling”

I really hope it is “I’ve fell”, yes “I’ve fell”

I have been there a lot of times

Even battling with myself twice as much those times

But I am still standing here, my heart belongs to you

Forever, God knows …undeniably forever.

Now I know how Love is great

To me it’s the First time it reveals itself

It is so powerful that I can scarifies everything

Just to make you come home, right just before our 5th Anniversary …
