A Night Of Cardiac Delights

The long wait was over last Friday for our team’s much awaited victory party at the rooftop of our building! Wootwoot! Sir Andy gave an additional P3,000.00 to the pot.

We shared three Lar’s lechon, Amber’s spaghetti and palabok. Yum!

After last night, everyone should abstain from eating fatty foods for the next couple of weeks. High blood!

Hay Life...

Menu Planning

To start the new year right, I am now doing menu planning strictly every weekend from now on. Not that I was not doing it from the past but it was just that I did not quite pay attention to it last year. Too much spoilage on vegetables and meat from the refrigerator because I would usually buy vegetables from the supermarket and then decide what to cook later.. and that was not so good.

This week, starting tomorrow, here is the list of my planned menu:

Monday – steamed kangkong, friend tofu and fried bangus

Tuesday – ginataang kalabasa and fried tanigue

Wednesday – beef steak (bistek tagalog) and steamed broccoli

Thursday – buttered garlic shrimp and stir-fry bitsuelas with bagoong

Friday – tinolang manok

Saturday – tortang talong and ensaladang labanos

I did my groceries this afternoon and the only challenge for me is to get up early tomorrow morning before lunch time. And by the way, another advantage of planning ahead is saving money because I only buy what is needed (kaching nanaman! :)

Menu planning should be a habit for us who runs household (ako, of two, hahaha! OA).

The White Tiger

It’s 2010! And according to the Chinese astrology, it is the year of the white tiger which symbolizes a bad year… weh?!

My family’s New Year celebration this year was not as bonggacious as the previous years because this year were no raffle items and there were few games but the difference is that I cooked most of dishes for the first time. Jelly and I were planning what to prepare for our media noche in almost a week. We came up with the a list: leche flan, buko pandan, turon, arroz caldo, fried tofu, fried lumpia, paella, rellenong alimasag, chicken wings.

I started cooking at 9:00am and everything was set at 7:00pm. At 7:30pm, Ninang Nina and I baked chocolate cake! The videoke started after our dinner. I had few songs until I realized my vocal chords were not in the mood to hit the high notes :D We also had a few rounds of Pictionary, of course my team won.

I hate that my camera is not working properly :( I need to buy external flash so I could use it again, hopefully before the next family event. I also hate that Tatay was not around until 11:00pm. He’s out with friends and went home drunk. Anyway, at least he went home before our traditional family prayer before the midnight came.

We welcomed the New Year with sinturon ni hudas, fire crackers and a bunch of luisis! After that, was a dance number prepared by the kids and then I hosted several games for the kids until 3:00am: relays, paper dance, and trip to Jerusalem.

Today is the third day of another 365 days for 2010. I hope this year is even more productive, happier and better for all of us than the last!

Happy New Year!!!

Happiness Is Having Dinner With The Angels

“T’was a very simple yet fun

get together. Tnx 4 coming.”

-Lanie A. Alaman

Nothing has stopped us from going back to our favorite meeting place, a place somewhere up there where the angels are always most welcome. I would say it felt like I had a long trip again since my road trip in Bicol. I had to commute for 2 hours, no traffic, just pure trike-jeepney-bus-trike rides. The long-planned get together cum Pauline’s birthday party was the one I always look forward to. Nothing has changed – the same food we love to share with, the funny stories that never gets old and the friendship we will treasure for a lifetime.

Ate Malou was with her sister Love. Nanay Omeng, Tinay, Owen and Madie were there and I came after them, then Sheh and Antuah with Aidan.  Paul was grilling the hotdogs and Ate Lanie was frying the fish balls when I checked on them. Ate Rina, Marlone and Gabu were also present. Sadly, Melay wasn’t there for the nth time ...:( but anyway, here’s my top 5:

#5.. The weird wall-climbing frogs around the house that scared us, one even went on my legs. Eewww!

#4.. A pack of Hany as give away from Antuah (which her aunt gave to her as gift, hehe)

#3.. The mouth-watering chicken sopas, hotdogs, pork barbeque, cake, grilled squid, and fishballs prepared with love by Tatay Paul and Nanay Lanie

#2.. The priceless reactions from my inaanaks after receiving their gifts

#1.. The clear skies with the blue moon, twinkling stars and the cool december breeze while we babble about the past and the future of a long-lasting friendship.

Marc dropped by for a while, but he was not with me and it just so happened that he was around the neighborhood. That was the first time for them to see us a meter apart after a long while which I understand why they were so teasing us to death. Hehehe.

Next get together… is Tinay’s birthday!
